Features to Consider When Buying New

By October 16, 2015Uncategorized
Buying a new home (aka a never lived in home) is an exciting proposition. You can get a home customized to suit your needs.

But, what do you really need? There are so many choices out there. Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) recently shared an in-depth look at their favorite new home options. They focused specifically on options that solve real-life problems and make life better. That’s something we really like. Here are some of our favorites from their list of recommendations.

Home Automation

Automated products put control right at your finger tips. With the right wiring and systems, you can adjust everything from your lights and window coverings to door locks and thermostat(s) all from an app on your smartphone. Still at the office and want to let the kiddos in when they get home for school? It’s as easy as one touch of a button.

A Great-Room Designed for Entertaining

Outfit a great-room with features such as a curved screen TV and a remote control operated, instant ignition fireplace. This will create a space you’ll want to enjoy with family and friends alike.

Functional Beauty

Built in shelving is a space saving option you can tailor to suit your needs. However, BHG recommends you take it a step further by using floating shelves. The result is the same level of function, while making the room feel more open and airy.

Multi-Season Outdoor Expansion

By using sliding doors to open your great room or breakfast nook and kitchen to the outside world, you can expand your home’s useable footprint. In the Pacific Northwest, this is particularly true if you opt for a covered patio. Install a few outdoor heaters and suddenly you have another room you can enjoy through multiple seasons.

In the Kitchen

BHG recommended a lot of cool things in the kitchen, but our favorite was the cabinets outfitted with LED strips that turn on when doors or drawers are opened. Say good-bye to that lost spatula!
